Sex and Violence…always necessary ingredients of Indian cinema?

That you always don’t need a plateful of Sex and Violence for a film to be successful is well justified by “Piku”

“Piku” is an Indian film in Hindi which is a recent release and has exceedingly done good business. I had seen it yesterday and it is one meaningful movie which I had seen in a long time. I am not sure if subtitles in English would be available, but to my non-Hindi speaking friends, its definitely worth a try.

It is a mixture of modern, busy life portrayed beautifully by the daughter ad mixed with the not letting go of his roots and living life on own terms displayed equally charmingly by the father. Deepika Padukone plays the daughter and Amitabh Bachan plays the role of the old father. Both are very famous and talented names in Hindi cinema.

The film catches you from the time it starts in view of the fact that the affection of the daughter for her obnoxious and often irritating father is displayed very beautifully but not loudly. Indian culture is such that more often than not, parents and children stay together. The sacrifice that the daughter makes for her father in the film, albeit silently, is well perceived. Also, Hindi cinemas are often incomplete without songs! Here, too, songs are there but have been so very beautifully composed.

So have a go at it!!!!
